How do I clean my piercing jewelry?
To extend the durability of your piercing jewelry and keep its brand new look as long as possible, you can do the following:
1) Remove all dirt with an isotonic salt solution
Let your jewelry soak in a saline solution for a couple of minutes, then shake around the solution and let it rest again for another couple of minutes. Finish the process by rinsing with cold water. Then let the jewelry air dry, or use a clean cloth. Please make sure to wash off all of the saline solution and follow up with tip #3.
2) Use antiseptic soap to prevent unpleasant smells
Rub and cover the jewelry with soap and make sure that the soap reaches every possible angle. Rinse it with cold water. If the product is coated, let it air dry. Please keep in mind that paper or napkins could cause small scratches on the surface of the coating, so please avoid using it!
3) Polish your piercing jewelry with a microfiber cloth
With coatings such as gold, silver, and regular plating, you need to make sure that you don’t rub the jewelry too hard or too long. In time, this could cause the coating to wear off faster. Do it lightly and thoroughly, but not too hard, so that you won't have any watermarks, slime residue or other unpleasant things.
For non-coated items and pure gold items, you may use more pressure when polishing your jewelry.
4) Store it correctly
When you don't use your jewelry, keep it in a jewelry box. Dark, dry, and with a soft lining so no scratches can come to it.
5) The most important part:
Remove your body piercing jewelry when you use the shower, swim, exercise, or plan to sweat a lot, just like you would with a necklace, bracelet, or any other type of jewelry. It will have a massive impact on the way your jewelry will look in the long run.
